As we inch closer to the end of Halloween Horror Nights we want present the best six treats to try before the event is over. These treats have been tested in the UORFoodBlog tasting lab by our best food scientist, readers and followers like you. So here it is our last top list for Halloween Horror Nights 30.
In front of the exit to Fast and Furious: Supercharged, you will find a food truck that offers what Xavier has dubbed a Pub Sub. If you've never had a Pub Sub, they are a sub sandwich offered at a grocery chain in Florida called Publix. Universal's version of these sandwiches are available with hand breaded chicken tenders. These sandwiches are offered in three different iterations, Buffalo, BBQ, and Banh-Mi(Thai Chili). These sandwiches are very filling. They are a great option if your looking for some grab and go food as your walking to your next house location. Keep in mind that these can get messy if your bread splits, so get extra napkins.
The Pumpkin De Leche Churro is a churro filled with dulce de leche then coated with pumpkin spiced sugar. This is found at the food booth on the Simpsons bypass bridge in Universal Studios Florida. If your not a big pumpkin spice fan, they also offer regular cinnamon sugar churros for your convenience. Keep in mind that the Pumpkin De Leche Churro is a Halloween Horror Nights exclusive treat, so you will not find it during normal day time operation.
The Jack and Chance Cake in jars are another stellar treat. They are offered at the Tribute Store next to The Mummy. Similar ones can be found at Toothsome Chocolate Emporium and Savory Feast Kitchen. These are offered in two different varieties, red velvet cake and chocolate. They are very picture-worthy. The jar can home with as a souvenir. When you get them home, be careful not to run them through your dishwasher since these jars are hand wash only. Unless you enjoy these items as much as our team member Keri, you might want to find the Jack to your Chance for sharing because these cakes can be very rich.
Twisted Taters are a Halloween Horror Nights staple. Believe it or not, there are crazy people, like Xavier, that come to the event just for the food. Twisted taters are one of those food items people love. A twisted tater is a spiral cut potato that is been placed on a skewer, flash fried, then seasoned with one of four flavors. Twisted Taters have evolved over the past couple of years. They now offer twisted taters that are wrapped around a foot long hotdog and/or covered in chili and queso. If your looking to get yourself a twisted tater you can find this item in front of Animal Actors on Location theater or across from Monsters Cafe..
HHN season has some adorable treats this year. These macaron treats can be found in various places around the resort. Here we have three macarons, all flavored differently to match the theming of their cute character. Mr. Mummy is snickerdoodle, Jack is Pumpkin, and Frank is mint. The most fun place to get these treats is the Tribute Store located next to Revenge of The Mummy.
This ain't your moms sandwiches! These sandwiches are offered in four different options. They have a Luke's Grilled Cheese which is a vegan option, the Tempeh Reuben a vegetarian option, the Jalapeño popper, and the Stuffed Brisket. The star is the Stuffed Brisket. This is shaved smoked brisket, pepper jack and cheddar cheese, pickled onions, tomato, and garlic aioli. Make sure to get your own because you won't want to share.
On this week's top three, Xavier ventures down the pumpkin rabbit hole and even finds a spooky treat being offered at Starbucks. An additional bonus is this week two of these items can be found outside of Halloween Horror Nights for our friends that will not dare enter the fog. After watching the Harry Potter movies for 246th time, you plan to visit Universal Orlando for vacation. You decided you want to dine at The Leaky Cauldron (that is in London, you know) and the Three Broomsticks. You want to enjoy every version of butterbeer. You are saddened to learn there is not a Wizarding World themed hotel, so you need to decide where to stay. You scrutinize prices of the “Premier” level hotels. You decide that your budget cannot handle those price points since you do not have a “philosopher’s stone” to turn lead into gold. You realize that your budget is closer to a Weasley family budget.
Fortunately for you, Universal Orlando has well themed resorts for lower budgets. Universal Orlando has defined these resorts into two categories: Value and Value Plus. As you might imagine, values are the lowest cost resorts at Universal Orlando and value plus are slightly higher priced but with more features.
Netflix’s “The Haunting of Hill House” became a over night hit that elevated the horror television genre. Created, directed and executive-produced by horror mastermind Mike Flanagan (Hush, Oculus, Gerald’s Game) and executive produced by Trevor Macy via their Intrepid Pictures, the chilling horror story follows members of the Crain family who are haunted by long-dormant fears stemming from their time living in the menacing Hill House as children and then forced to face the ghosts of its grisly past.

Right before the July 4th holiday weekend, Universal Orlando has discontinued their full service and quick service dining plans. This came as a surprise to many in the theme park community. Pietro Maximoff’s first line of dialogue in Avengers: Age of Ultron was:” You didn’t see that coming” In fairness, Pietro and Universal Orlando, I did not see that coming. When Disney is promoting that their dining plan would be returning at some point, I did not see that coming! When the news broke on July 2nd in the morning, I was messaged by several theme park writers saying all my work on how to maximize the Universal Orlando version of the dining plan was no longer valid. Yes, I did not see that coming. In fairness, when the news broke, I was proofreading a potential article entitled: The Universal Orlando Resort Dining Plan Demystified. Well, maybe you are like me and sometimes used the dining plans at Universal Orlando. Now you are confused what to do. As of writing, I have spoken with multiple travel agents that were also caught off guard by this change.
This is what we know for sure: Both varieties of the Universal Dining Plan are no longer being sold in person or online. If you have already booked a full-service plan or have credits with a quick service plan/card, those will still be honored through the end of the year. Overall, this seems like a curious move with Walt Disney World talking about a return of some version of a dining plan.
