We are back for another week of our top three foods. As usual, it was hard for us to narrow it down to three items. So, here's what caught our eye this week.
The first thing we had came from Toothsome Chocolate Emporium and Savory Feast Kitchen. The Red Hot Holiday Shake, made with Red Hot candies, crushed peppermint, and a Christmas tree snack cake. The milkshake is a photogenic treat made with Toothsome's delicious ice cream.
There is no need to make a mad dash for this next item; it's available year-round at Comic Strip Cafe. Comic Strip Cafe unveiled a new menu offering arepas, dumplings, ramen, and rice bowls. This week we got the Beef Bulgogi Ramen Combo. Beef Bulgogi(BBQ Beef) ramen with tonkotsu broth(pork bone broth), tare egg(half-boiled egg), bean sprouts, scallions, and cilantro served with an eggroll.
When we first saw this on the menu, we were very excited to see Universal adventuring to something out of their norm. Let's start with the eggroll first. It was very tough to eat like it had been sitting under a heating lamp for some time. Then, moving on to the ramen, some not-so-great things were happening. First, the Tonkotsu broth was bland, almost like drinking hot dog water. The tare egg is also known as a half-boiled seasoned egg commonly used in ramen. The tare egg we received was just a cold hard-boiled egg probably cooked earlier in the day. Lastly, the beef bulgogi had great flavor, but the chewiness of the beef took away from the enjoyable factor. Overall the ramen was just ok and isn't something we would tell anyone to go out of their way to try. If you want some ramen there are other great places in Orlando we can suggest.
Back on a lighter note, we tried the Nutella Reindeer Cheesecake Pop. This is a cheesecake pop covered in Nutella, then garnished with candied hazelnuts. We picked up the cheesecake pop from San Francisco Pastry Company, but it can also be found at Croissant Moon Bakery. The cheesecake pop is a cute little treat you can walk with to burn those calories as you consume them. Plus, it looks like Rudolph the Rednosed Reindeer. Coincidence, I think not.
Have you had any of the Asian cuisines from Comic Strip Cafe? Let us know your thoughts. Then, make sure you guys join us next week as we look at some excellent vegan and vegetarian options offered during the holidays at Universal. Until then, be kind to your fellow guests and most definitely the Team Members, Cast Members, and Seaworld Ambassadors you encounter working this Thanksgiving.
